The last day of the trip. I headed straight for SanFran, skipping places like Point Reyes National Seashore, only stopping at Muir Woods. It is just north of the Golden Gate. When I arrived there were tour buses and people everywhere. It wasn’t even that nice.
I hurried back to my car and took some shots of the bridge
Like a broken record, I was able to find a really cheap place in Knob Hill downtown through my Internet discount diving. Here is a shot of the room
It was the Executive Hotel Vintage Court and I recommend it highly for price and great location. These streets are crazy. There were some streets that must have been greater than 45 degrees. When you looked at a map, you had better know if it was downhill or uphill cause that made a huge difference
I took in the sites and made my way down to the water
This is Scomas. Which I was told by the bartender is a famous seafood restaurant
Here is your classic Lombard street shot
And all the people standing taking pictures of curvy street
I met a fellow traveler and we rambled around the pubs and bars on Oak Street. San Fran was nice, but too big of a city for me. The next day I headed to SFO and boarded a plane to San Diego and La Jolla for a wedding where I also got to swim with a seal in the ocean. I was cool with his company until I realized that if he was there, maybe a shark would also be there looking to talk to him. I frantically swam back to shore.
The trip was long. I covered 3,500 miles in that rental car. I saw more things than I thought possible. It would have been nice to spend a couple days in each park to really come away with a unique impression, but I don't have that kind of time on this Earth and there are still too many places to see. I felt like a madman, running trails, jumping in and out of cars to grab shots. I am not sure if it was a real vacation or a quest. “A quest for fun!” I traveled a couple weeks later with my brother and still was unable to relax, always trying to get to the next place. Oh, well, just more things to discuss with my therapist.
Until Next Time,
Darren
